The IZZO Swami 4000 Golf GPS is a more affordable alternative to many higher-priced Golf GPS units on the market, but works just as well by offering many of the same features and benefits needed to maximize your performance on the course. The Swami 4000 comes preloaded with over 25,000 worldwide course maps and requires no annual subscription. Just charge and play! The unit has a large, vibrant 1.8 inch color display that’s easy to read (even in bright sunlight) and operate, providing accurate distance to the front/center/back of the green, auto-hole advance and course map edit functions. Added features include shot distance measurement and a digital scorecard for each course map. The rechargeable battery holds a 6 to 8 hour charge and can last 2 full rounds. Impressive and easy to use gadget There are basically two kinds of Golf GPS units, the full service ones, embodied by the SkyCaddie line and others that give you distance to the green, front and back, as well as distances to obstacles and carries needed to clear them. Then there is the kind I call GPS lite, the only give you the distance to the green, front and back. This limits their usefulness but they are also much simpler to use and often less expensive.The Izzo Swami GPS 4000 is among the GPS lite group. You get the distances to the green, shot distance that allows you to accurately measure your shot distance, you also get an electronic score card and can edit the front and back distances to the greens, and the unit will remember them for the future.There is no subscription needed and more than 25,000 courses are preloaded.I compared it to the SkyCaddie SGX during a round of golf at Fossil Trace in Golden Colorado. “Love, love, love it!”, says my husband… The IZZO Swami 4000 is an update to the Swami that my husband has been using for years. He is more than pleased with the new version and says this is well worth every penny. Here are the reasons he says he loves it:1. The preloaded courses include our small town country club, and every other course he has entered so far, and there is no need for a subscription or download. The course map is easily edited, if necessary.2. Has a bright, easy to read display and shows the front, center and back of the green.3. It is accurate to about 3 yards as tested at the course, and as long as it is with you it advances to the next hole as you walk (auto-hole advance feature).4. One charge holds a long time, so that a whole weekend of play is possible before recharging.5. Good alternative This is a nice little golf GPS and definitely a solid alternative to the SkyCaddie. I took it to my favorite course which is an out of the way Executive course that’s been in operation a long time. It didn’t find the course in it’s database, which accounts for the loss of 1 star. IZZO is coming into the game a little late so I expect they’ll get better over time as they continue to update their list of courses. That’s the only con I could find however. The design is rugged and easy to use. Large buttons and large, high contract readouts are a must for me as I don’t wear my glasses when I play and playing in full sun can make screens hard to read. No such problems encountered with the IZZO. It comes with a charger and charges for 24 hours first time through. The charge lasts a good long time and recharging is pretty quick.Where this device shined was in measuring distance from my location to the green. I found it to be very accurate and it definitely saved me a couple shots when…
