FULL OF ERRORS This book is not worthy in any educational setting. Chapters are not balanced, even in the context of a gradual build up. It is not accurate to the ArcMap program. The visual display of end-user steps to take aren’t practical (light olive green was a weak choice), and I seriously have all of section 5-8 missing because pages from chapter 8 were printed in its place (see picture). Seriously, it goes from page 234 to page 363 in physical order. How pathetic is that?! The binding is poorly manufactured as well, made with a weak glue that will fall apart with light use. This has the feel of a book rushed off to printing at the last minute because the author and publisher didn’t want to miss out on their profits for the latest version…as if textbooks aren’t enough of a racket as it is. This book is a poor reflection on academia. If your instructor assigns these workbooks for their class, I would raise the issue ASAP.

Decent but flawed I like that the tutorials walk you through step by step. However, there are quite a few steps that were not included that you have trouble shoot. Since this book really just shows you how to use certain functions, rather than actually teaching you how to use ArcGIS to build a map from scratch, it’s difficult to know what to trouble shoot and how to fix things when they go wrong.

Great 2nd-tier instruction manual I like this book. This is good for people who have already had an introductory course with ArcGIS using something like the Maribeth Price book. This is a great tool for scientists and sits proudly on my bookshelf.
