Not all cars can easily accommodate a GPS mount, which is where this Garmin friction kit comes in handy. The unit, which works with the Garmin StreetPilot i2 and i3 navigators, offers a pair of cool mounting options. The dash mount boasts a trio of friction fingers that hold securely to any dashboard, including funky contoured surfaces. The lightweight, flexible mount is ideal for people who want convenient, easy access to their GPS navigators but don’t want them sailing across the dash during every turn. Plus, the dash mount isn’t fixed, so you can move it from car to car when necessary. The windshield mount, conversely, features a tough adhesive backing that stays in place for good, unlike many suction mounts. So rather than slipping down the windshield when the conditions get moist, it sits firmly in its spot and keeps your navigator within hand’s reach. Best of all, you don’t have to chose a mounting option until you receive the kit.

Works As Intended I live in California where they allow people to be distracted talking on cell phones while they drive but make it against the law to unobtrusively mount a tiny GPS unit like the Garmin i5 on the windshield. I guess the cell phone industry makes larger political contributions than the GPS industry. Anyway, this friction mounting kit seems to work well although I haven’t tried it under really bumpy or rough driving conditions (and hope I don’t have to). It looks just like the picture, is fairly heavy so it stays put on the dash, and the GPS unit attaches easily. I bought mine from Amazon and they shipped the right model, unlike the other reviewer who bought from Office Depot. In my opinion this is about as good a solution you can get for a non-permanent attachment. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the price is high. The retail price is ridiculously high and thankfully Amazon had it at a good discount but even with the discount the price is too high. I notice Garmin…

Garmin makes better GPS than mounting kits This kit comes with the friction mounting device and with a hook that can permanently be attached to the windshield, just in case one does not like the kit, I suppose. It does what it says it does, it sits wherever you put it on the dashboard. The dashboard, however, has to be flat for the kit to sit properly. Under the feet there is a thin tissue that keeps the contraption from sliding, which almost came off while I was positioning it on the dashboard, but it is a big improvement from the suction cup that came with my Streetpilot i5, which kept falling from the windshield. What bugs me is that the i5, which is already pretty tiny, it is now further from my eyes and the screen is now harder to read. Also, I can not keep myself from asking what happens to the contraption in case of an accident…maybe if it hits me on the head I will never get lost again? It seems that the only alternative to this device is the glue it for life suction cup, so in this package you have both…
